Club News 5th Feb

For a change we have no race results to report on in this week’s club news as the cyclo cross season has finished and with no MTB events on, or anyone taking part in the winter road races, most sensibly keep the powder dry for the important races later in the year.

On the training and social side, Tuesday we had our first Tuesday night training session of the season last week at the Hillingdon CCT, this is repeated this week, the plan for the first couple of weeks is to ride at Level 3, “tempo”, not flat out ! ½ lap changes with the session starting at 6 p.m. and going onto 7.30 p.m. those looking for a bit more training will be practising their sprints every 5 laps, if you cannot make the 6 p.m. start just arrive when you can and drop into a group.

Due to a combination of people working late and the weather the Wed night social ride did not happen but at the weekend as usual we had an MTB ride around the Chenies area where Wayne was checking out some of the proposed routes for this year’s 20th Bucks Off Road Sportive, unfortunately clearly concentrating on checking out the routes he had an “off” and twisted his ankle, so hopefully back on the bike soon Wayne.

Mon and Thursday evening a few of us also hit the Brunel Gym, if anyone wants to do some gym work to improve the all important core strength then why not join us.

On Sunday the road ride split into 2 ability groups, with the faster group riding out to the start of the Bucks Road Sportive at Maple Lodge and completing the 85km shorter route, this is a great course, hilly and scenic but with some sharp bends to test the bike handling. Over the next two weeks we will be having a ride to cover the extra loop incorporated in the 100km long route.

For those coming on the French road trip please check the forum on the club website as it has details of the flights most people are taking, also can those who are yet to py the second £100 instalment please do so, remember one of the conditions of the selection criteria for the trip was that people would support the clubs road sportive, having checked the pre-entrys still waiting a few of you to enter

The details of the Summer MTB trip to ride the Grande Traversee de Vaucluse has been finalized so hopefully you have got in touch if you want to come along. Ideally we have room for one more female to even the numbers up, so if you are female, or know someone who is and they fancy an epic MTB trail get in touch-all accommodation has been booked.

Another trip in the pipeline is an MTB trip to Scotland, the plan is to drive up early Thursday morning on the 3rd May doing a trail centre on the way up then staying at Newton Stewart for 2 nights (Thurs and Fri) to ride Kirroughtree on the Friday and probably Dalbeattie Saturday, then driving to Glentress to spend Sat and Sunday night at Glentress, riding Glentress on the Sunday and either Innerleithen or Mabie on Monday before returning home. The plan is take the club van, I will be booking accommodation for myself and Gosia by the end of the week, the pods at Glentress go quickly so if anyone wants to come along get in touch pronto as Glentress has to be paid for at the time of booking.

This Saturday the plan is a Look Out MTB ride, meeting at the main car- park at 9.30, club van should be leaving Uxbridge at 8.45, so get in touch if you want a lift, I am considering riding out so may need a driver.

Sunday the road ride will meet at the usual meeting place of the Malt Shovel at 9.30, so people can follow a GPX file the planned ride will be one from the clubs Garmin page which I will post up on FB nearer the date.

This Sunday morning I am doing a coaching session at Calshot, there are a couple of spare spaces if anyone else wants to have go before our own club session the following weekend then get in touch.

Our forthcoming track session at Calshot is now full.

If people look at the notable dates below they can see that we have a number of club trips coming up, if anyone wants further details of the Bucks Road Sportive/ Majorca training camp/Paris Roubaix/Glentress MTB trip/French road tour/French MTB tour then check the clubs forums out or send me an e-mail.

Hopefully see people on a ride soon.
