It’s always nice to report on club wins and this weekend just gone we had 3 which was excellent, in the 1st round of Gorrick Series, the 1st rider to take top honours was juvenile George Fowkes who stormed to a win with very impressive lap times that many seniors would have been proud of taking just 41mins for his two 4 mile laps. The next rider to take a win was Gosia McPherson who despite having mechanical issues managed to overcome these and her closest rival on the last lap to take the win in the veterans Women’s class. In the 4 lap veterans race Roger Fowkes was clearly inspired by his son George’s early ride and led from start to finish to make it a family double with Paul White a little further behind in 5th. In the sports class Nick Try produced consistent lap times to finish 7th , Kasia Ambrose in the sports ladies took the final podium spot in 3rd whilst in the Grand vets race Simon Slater showed he has had a good winters training to finish 4th, whilst Jason Snell making his race debut finished 22nd in his class. All in all a great 2017 début race for a number of club riders.
Elsewhere Neil Ellison showed he is coming back to form as he finished a very creditable 3rd after a mechanical when leading in the latest round of the Central Cross league to cement his current 3rd place overall with Jorge Manso another to strike misfortune, a crash pushing him down to 25th. In the latest round of the Imperial Road series Steve Heatley was once again mixing it in the bunch sprint but just missed out on a top 10 placing.
Elsewhere over the week a few brave souls suffered the cold weather at the clubs road training at Hillingdon and also the Wed MTB social ride, Wednesday during the day myself, Peter M and John Jones rode the short course of this year’s Bucks Road Sportive we have changed the route this year to avoid a couple of short busy sections the plus is that it is a much nicer ride the minus for some is that it now includes more climbing, remember to get those entries in for the event which is on the 26th Feb, we will be having a Wed daytime ride around the course on the 1st Feb if anyone wants a preview of it. Saturday morning there was a good turnout for the Social MTB ride, Sunday as well as the racing there were a couple of people who braved the icy roads and took part in the Team Quest Sportive so well done to those.
Ok looking ahead to this week, today Tuesday it is the road training at Hillingdon, the more people that go down there the easier it will be to find groups of equal ability, so whatever standard why not pop along. Wed there is the usual MTB social ride, Saturday for a change we are going to have a social road ride then Sunday there are plans for an MTB ride around The Chilterns or for those wanting some hard training a 3-4 hr road ride, these rides are obviously weather dependent as if it is icy there maybe a swap onto Fat tyres.
