Well what a result for Neil Ellison at the weekend, a superb 3rd place in the National 40-44 Cyclo Cross Championship, this the first time we as a club have ever had a medallist in a National Cross Championship, so a very big well done to him. A measure of his ride was that the winner was Paul Oldham, who is a former open Nat champion and at 40 is still good enough for a top ten position in the open event.
Elsewhere there was a club win, this time it was Roger Fowkes returning to racing at the Sherwood Pines MTB race where he rode away from the field from the start to win the veterans class.
On the road front Nick Try finished 15th at Velo Park whilst Allen Huish expected 2018 road debut was postponed due to his race being cancelled at Hillingdon.
On the social side there was the Wednesday night social MTB ride and Saturday another Social MTB ride, Sunday a few from the club did the Westerley Sportive, whilst a few others were also out road riding however for myself and Gosia with 4 punctures between us it was a bit of a wash out, hopefully beter luck this week.
This week as normal a few of us will be at the gym at Brunel, today Monday and Thursday at 6.30 p.m. Wed there is another social ride on the MTBs, meeting at the Malt Shovel at 7 p.m-don’t forget your beer tokens for a quick recovery drink at the pub at the end of the ride. Saturday there is a plan to ride the Newbury Sportive a choice of 24km or 33kms mainly off road route, Sunday the plan is a 3-4 hr training road ride, a bit of early preparation for those coming on the French Road trip, we will be meeting at the Malt Shovel at 9 a.m. All welcome, hopefully someone will also post up a more social ride for Sunday.
Over the Summer I am looking at an MTB trip to ride the Grande Traverse De Vauclause, this is a roughly 300km off road route around the area near to Mont Ventoux, dates are yet to be confirmed and the trip is likely to involve 5-6 days of riding, the plan would be take the club van to help with travelling as it is a place to place ride. Let me know if you are keen on the trip.
Once again a big thanks to those that have renewed their membership over the last week, hopefully we will see you all out on the club rides this week.
Still got a couple of spaces left now for the track session at Calshot indoor track on the 18th Feb, for those that have never ridden an indoor track before, it is a real buzz and comes highly recommended and you never know you could be the next Chris Hoy so get in touch for more details if you fancy a go!
We have had the first entries for the clubs sportives, the Bucks Road Sportive on the 25th Feb and the Bucks Off Road Sportive on the 13th May, so get your entries in and spread the word as it would be great to get a big turnout for these events
If people look at the notable dates below they can see that we have a number of club trips coming up, if anyone wants further details of the Bucks Road Sportive/ Majorca training camp/Paris Roubaix/French road tour/French MTB trip then check the clubs forums out or send me an e-mail.
Hopefully see people on a ride soon.
