Well we start of with a big thanks to all those that helped in anyway and or took part in the clubs Summer Black Park XC race held on Sunday, a club is only as good as its members so it was nice to see quite a few helping out. Results wise it was a bit of a WDMBC benefit with Lisa winning the ladies beginners, Will T taming 3rd in the beginners men’s race, Slavek leading a clean sweep of the podium places in the fun men’s class, Sue Tebbs winning the fun ladies, Chris Try and Nick Try taking 1st and 2nd in the sports, with Kasia 1st in the ladies sports, Rick featherston leading another clean sweep with Sam Phillips and Simon Slater in the grd vets, Gosia taking second in the vets ladies, Sam Edwards and Charlotte Cummings taking the top spots in the men’s and women’s Elite/Expert races , not sure if it was due to the training sessions we had held round the cct or that people rose to the occasion and took advantage of some of the stars resting after last weekends Southern races.
Our next open promotion should be the Night race at the same venue on the 9th September, it would be great to confirm this will go ahead ASAP, but before we do we need to people to e-mail let me know that they are willing to fill the following positions,
2 people for signing on and sorting the start sheets out, 3 people to help set up the curse on Saturday afternoon, someone to find and take charge of the marshals(the advantage as it is a night race that the park will be closed so less people needed) someone to arrange the lighting, someone to do the marketing and sponsor liaison.
Elsewhere on the racing front last week, Jonny Sargeant was an excellent 2nd in the West Thames road race, it was nice to see a new club face down at the venue with Samuel Thompson making his debut, hopefully he will be back soon and start getting used to the pace. On the Time trial event Neil came close to a sub 20 minute 10 on Saturday with Siobhan just missing out on her PB.
Socially there was the usual weekly Wednesday night MTB ride as well as a gentle social ride Saturday morning then yesterday our club night at The Crown PH. Where it was decided that we as a club will be looking to ride the Scott Marathon in Minehead on the 9th July, full details https://www.mtb-marathon.co.uk/events/9th-july-2017-exmoor-minehead.html, the club van will have room for 6 persons with the idea of camping at the venue.
This week, today Tuesday as well as the usual West Thames road races at Hillingdon there is a ladies evening at the Specialized Concept store in Ruislip, should be a good evening with some free goodies on offer. Wednesday it is the usual Social MTB ride, Thursday we are having a break from MTB training for a couple of weeks as we will be packing bikes for the French road trip, then for 21 of us it is a weeks road riding in the Alps taking in all the iconic Tour De France climbs, for those not lucky enough to be able to come there are some alternative rides, Saturday a social Mtb ride , all welcome including guests and this will meet at The Malt Shovel at 9.30, Sunday there will be a social road ride of 30 miles with a cafe stop, meeting at the same place and time, once again all welcome.
Votes and nominations for both May’s Racer and club person of the month are open on the club website-make sure you cast your vote.
On the club website there is details of a beach race in November and which looks like it could be a good club trip, so check it out at https://www.westdraytonmbc.co.uk/forums/topic/race-tailor-made-for-clive-de-panne-beach-race/ and post up if keen.
Neil is busy liaising with the new proposed kit supplier and had hoped for some samples for club night but this has been a bit delayed however we should have some samples soon for people to try on for fit, keep checking the website for updates.
