Another good week for the club, with good turnouts for the social rides on Wed and Saturday, where it was nice to see a few old faces back out. On the racing front Neil Ellison took a trip across the water to ride the European championships and finished a very creditable 14th. Nearer to home in the Leighton Buzzard CX event Paul White took 8th in the vets race on a course that certainly didn’t suit an MTB, in the women’s event Agne Kudirkaite finished in 7th overall and 4th in the senior ladies class with Gosia McPherson 26th and 6th in the over 50’s both improving on last week’s results in the over 50’s. Sam Phillips finished 5th, I managed 30th with Ant Snyman 80th on what must be the heaviest bike on the race!
With no local CX races this weekend we are planning on a training race on Saturday morning to keep in the swing of things, with the plan to have a 40minute race followed by a short skills session this Saturday morning at the field adjacent to the old ski slope in Uxbridge, meeting at the Athletics track car park at 9.30 a.m.
We have decided that the Wed evening social rides will take place on a fortnightly basis over the winter so the next ride is a week Wednesday, although there are some random rides from our sponsor’s shop which are based around the evenings Paul can make it so keep your eyes peeled for those which are often announced on Facebook. There is choice of rides on Thursday, an MTB ride around Whippendell Wood meeting at Tesco at 1.30 P.M. and then there is also the cross training at the old ski slope, usual meeting place of the Athletics track car park at 6 p.m. Hopefully someone will also post up a Saturday social MTB ride for those who fancy something a bit more leisurely than the cross training. Sunday in the absence of a local cross race we are having a road ride from the Malt Shovel, meeting at 9.30, probably looking at about 3hrs riding but will be dependent on who is out.
We are now up to 15 people for the French road trip, if you want to come let me know pronto and get those deposits in ASAP, full details are on the club website at https://www.westdraytonmbc.co.uk/forums/topic/french-road-trip-2019/
Another reminder our 1st track trip to Calshot this winter is on Dec 1st, this was a very popular activity last year but at the moment we still need a few more to make it viable so now is the time to commit, this is also the date of the Club Xmas Do which is at the Richings Park Sports Club, if you want a ticket or two then a £25 bank transfer to the club account secures your place(s).
A big thanks to those that came forward and volunteered to help run our next open event a cross race on the 27th Jan at the Hillingdon cct, we still need a few more to make sure the event runs smoothly so hopefully a few more people will let me know they can help with setting the course up or down before or after the event or with signing on / marshalling.
