A busy week on the cross front with our superstar Neil Ellison taking a great 4th place in Round 2 of the National trophy on Saturday in Scotland and then making the long journey home overnight to take a convincing win in the Leighton Buzzard event. Also racing at the LB event was Paul White in 8th, in the women’s event, Agne Kudirkaite was 11th overall and 8th senior with Gosia McPherson 25th and 7th in the over 50’s and Siobhan Butler enjoying the fast flat course 45th. In the men’s over 50’s Sam Phillips just missed out on the win in 2nd place I managed 28th with Ant Snyman 69th on his MTB. Elsewhere in the Wessex league Clive Evans finished 12th in the over 50’s. For those that have not tried cross would certainly recommend it – a very friendly atmosphere, local short fast intensive races and always battling to stay away from the rider behind or to catch the rider in front and you can do it on an MTB if you do not have a dedicated cross bike.
Over the week it was nice to see few more people at club night on Monday, the regulars at Cross training on Thursday and a big turnout for the social MTB ride seeing a few faces that had not been out for some time and a catch up over coffee at the Dogs Trust.
We are now up to 14 people for the French road trip, if you want to come let me know pronto and get those deposits in ASAP, full details are on the club website at https://www.westdraytonmbc.co.uk/forums/topic/french-road-trip-2019/
Another reminder our 1st track trip to Calshot this winter is on Dec 1st, so put that date in your diary which is also the date of the Club Xmas Do which is at the Richings Park Sports Club, if you want a ticket or two then a £25 bank transfer to the club account secures your place(s).
Rides this week, well after a bit of a sabbatical as it is Halloween this Wednesday we thought we would celebrate with a resurrection of the evening social MTB ride, the plan is to meet at the Swan and Bottle PH at 7.00 p.m. for an approx 2 hr ride finishing with a beer so make sure you bring some beer tokens, anyone going to go the full hog and turn up in fancy dress? Thursday it is the usual cross training at the field adjacent to the old ski slope from 6 p.m. onwards, meet at the Hillingdon Athletics track car park, lights are required. Saturday there will be a social MTB ride meeting at the Malt Shovel at 9.30 a.m. Sunday for the cross riders there is an event at Whipsnade Zoo, the club van will be going of anyone needs a lift from the Uxbridge area. Hopefully someone will also organise a road ride in my absence.
A big thanks to those that have volunteered to help run our next open event a cross race on the 27th Jan at the Hillingdon cct but I still need a few more to make sure the event runs smoothly so hopefully a few more people will let me know they can help with setting the course up or down after the event or with signing on/marshalling.
