Another week rolls by and although we did not quite hit the same heady heights of last week results-wise, we nevertheless had some superb club performances.
New recruit Jack Shuttleworth just missed out on consecutive wins at the Hillingdon Circuit as he took 2nd place Then at the weekend Agne Kudirkaite took 4th place in a quality women’s field at Abingdon in a road race. In the 2nd round of the Nat Mountain Bike Series, George Fowkes took an excellent 6th in the juvenile class after being baulked at the start which meant he was having to progress from the back of the field. Nick Try finished 21st in the Sports Class, whilst Roger Fowkes was 12th and Paul White 20th in the vets. Given that this is a National event some very good results.
On the training and social side last week there was a good turnout for the MTB training and road training on Wed and Thursday then on Fri a few of us enjoyed a coffee and cake road ride, there was a Lookout MTB ride Sat then we had two different groups out on the road rides with the longer route group completing an 80 mile plus ride although marred by a few punctures.
This week the current plans are as follows, Tuesday road racing at the Hillingdon circuit, where hopefully we will see a few more from the club taking part, Wednesday there is MTB training at Black Park in preparation for our race at the venue on June 3rd, the plan this week is to meet up on the large green at the back of the Lake, for those that can get there at 6 we will do some skills training from 6-6.35 then we will be training round the same 1st circuit as last week, 1 x 20 min session, followed by some more skills and then onto intervals/starts on the proposed race cct.
Thursday we have the road training at Hillingdon cct from 6 p.m. onwards the session will consist of 3 x 5 laps sessions followed by some lead out sprint drills, hopefully going anti-clockwise around the cct. Friday morning I am thinking of another social road or gravel ride, so if keen let me know what you would prefer, pace will be to suit those that attend and where people would like to meet either at the Malt Shovel or the Specialized Concept Store in Ruislip.
Saturday there will be a social MTB meeting at the Malt Shovel at 9.30 this will be an ideal ride for those wanting to loosen their legs a spin before the MTB race at Checkendon on the Sunday. Sunday once again we will have two road rides, one of approx 60 miles with a stop anticipated and one of approx 80 miles non-stop, both will follow roughly the same route so that if people want to revert to the shorter route halfway through the ride it will be possible.
We have received a few more entries over the week for our Bucks Off Road Sportive on May13th, this is the 20th anniversary of the event and we are hoping for a record field so keep spreading the word about the event and don’t forget to enter.
Due to unforeseen circumstances there is now 1 vacancy for the club’s road trip from Clermont-Ferrand to Perpignan, the trip is a supported affair with the club van taking the bags and acting as a sag wagon so if you fancy taking on some of the Tour De France climbs and joining the 21 going then get in touch pronto.
Likewise we do have 1 vacancy for the club’s MTB trip at the end of July, preferably a female to share a room with Sue.
We are still looking for people to volunteer to help out with the marshalling at Black Park on the 3rd June, if you have a partner/wife/husband/lover perhaps they could spare an hour or two whilst you race so get in touch if you can assist.
No one has yet come forward to take on the organisation of the annual night race a Black Park, must be someone in the cub willing to roll up their sleeves and take this on?
Hopefully see people on a ride soon
