It is great to be able to report that the winning machine Neil Ellison was back on form this week and returned to the top step at the vets race at the Hemel Hempstead cross race, so a big well done to him. Paul White was also back to is best as he took 6th, other results were Agne Kudirkaite 11th and Siobhan Butler 47th, whilst in the over 50’s Sam Phillips was 11th, I was 32nd and Mark Eidem was 55th although I am sure a small commute back from San Francisco in the morning might just have impacted on his ride. Elsewhere in the Wessex Cross Clive Evans finished 12th. It was also nice to see club rider Sean Downey at the HH cross cheering people on, hopefully after his house move and redecoration we will soon see him back racing. Further afield Paul Williams came 14th in his age category in the European Duathlon championships so well done to him.
A big thanks to Sam Thompson and Simon Slater for organising last weekend’s road rides, a club is only as good as its members so let’s hope some others post rides this week. On Saturday we had a social MTB ride and nice to see a new face James out.
We are now up to 12 people for the French road trip, if you want to come let me know pronto and get those deposits in ASAP, full details are on the club website at https://www.westdraytonmbc.co.uk/forums/topic/french-road-trip-2019/
Another reminder our 1st track trip to Calshot this winter is on Dec 1st, so put that date in your diary which is also the date of the Club Xmas Do which is at the Richings Park Sports Club, as Henry and Matt are in charge of the do I am sure it will be a great night, full details and costs will be announced soon but the more that attend the cheaper it is likely to be, so put the date in your diary.
Now the dark nights are drawing in we are going to curtail the Tuesday night road training sessions at Hillingdon, we will be continuing with the Thursday cross training at the old Hillingdon ski slope which will be starting at 6 p.m. meeting at the Athletics track car park, anyone arriving late we will be training in the usual place on the field adjacent to the old ski slope. Saturday morning we have a social MTB ride, meeting at the Swan and Bottle PH at 9.30 this will be a gentle affair and incorporate a coffee stop. Sunday for the cross riders there is another round of the Central cross league at Leighton Buzzard and for the road rides we will have a road ride meeting at the Malt Shovel at 9.
Tonight Monday evening it is pub night at the Crown and I will need to know definites for the De Panne beach race to be able to book the ferry/accommodation, room for 6 in the club van.
As people should know we are running a cross race at Hillingdon on the 27th Jan a big thanks to those that have volunteered to help but I still need quite a few more to make sure the event runs smoothly so please let me know if you can help out, those that are racing hopefully can either help with setting the course up or down after the event or with signing on around their racing commitments.
