Once again another busy week for the club, it started off with Road training at the Hillingdon CCT on Tuesday morning , there are now a few from the club attending this which is good to see and it is a regular event both Tuesday and Friday mornings if anyone is around during the day. Wednesday night we had a social MTB ride, Thursday a CX training session at Stockley Park, then at the weekend there was a social MTB ride and also 6 of us went over to France to ride the Le Touquet Beach Race. Got to say as always seems with foreign events the atmosphere was great. We lined up for the start on a very cold day to be on the beach, the field was not as big a field as the De Panne beach race but still well over a 100 riders in each of the 3 race distances, being plucky Brits we had entered the longest at 50 kms. From the start you knew it was going to be a tough day at the office as the sand rather than be hard and compact as had been expected it was very soft along a lot of the course although the winner didn’t seem to notice it as he rode at speeds I would struggle to match on a tarmac road on a TT bike. Results wise, Paul White was best of the Brits in 46th, I was 50th and won the veterans prize with Clive Evans 51st and 4th in the Masters 3 category. Unfortunately due to the tide the course was closed before about half the field had completed the full distance so Gosia M, Mark Eidem and Wayne Cook at this point had to throw the towel in with 1 lap to ride. Certainly an event worth riding so put it on your list of events to do.
This week once again a few of us were down at Hillingdon on Tuesday morning for the road training, Thursday we will be doing some cross training at the venue on Sundays proposed race circuit from 10 a.m. if anyone wants to come along. Saturday morning there is a choice of rides, a 2.5-3hr road ride meeting at 9.30 opposite the South Bucks Council offices on the A40 at Tatling End or a social MTB ride meeting at the Malt Shovel at 9.30. MTB ride will be approx 2hrs and we will include a coffee stop at some stage.
Then Saturday afternoon we will be marking out the cyclo cross course from 2 p.m. onwards. Many hands make light work so if you want to assist pop along, the more the merrier. Then Sunday it s event day, our first foray into cyclo cross organisation, to make the day go smoothly we need a number of helpers, a number of you have volunteered to help but we could do with a few more. Ideally those that II have already made contact with should be there as close to 7.00 and as possible than we could also do with some who could arrive later and then assist with the course dismantling after the last race at 2.30.
For those helping out I have some club T-Shirts to hand out as a Thank you, please in advance let me know what size you want. If you already have a club T-Shirt I will find something else from the cub emporium.
Also Sunday a few people who are featuring in the overall rankings have entered the last round of the Brass Monkeys MTB series so good luck to them.
The good news for me is that 20 people have now paid deposits for the French road trip in June so it is now full, there were a couple of others who were talking about coming but who had not paid the deposits, if you still want to come I will run a reserve list, as due to unforeseen circumstances over the last few years we have always had a few people drop out, so speak to me if you do want to be put on the reserve list.
On the trip front the next trip is to South Wales on the 8/9/10th Feb, where we will be doing the MTB trail centres, so far I think there are 7 of us going, there is one spare space in a twin bedded room booked if anyone wants to join us either for Fri/Sat/Sun or just the Sat/Sun, the club van is likely to be going down if you need a lift get in touch.
On the 17th Feb we have the last Calshot trip of the winter if you intend coming please transfer a deposit of £15 as soon as possible, cost will be dependent on numbers but last time £15 covered it for club members. It is as a lot of you know great fun and a real buzz hurtling around the tightly banked track so don’t delay pay your deposit to secure your place.
March 10th a few people are muttering about a 4hr MTB race in the Le Touquet area, entries can either be single of doubles.
Over Easter there are a few of going to go to Scotland, if anyone is keen get in touch as accommodation will need to be booked and the lodges at Glentress which are ideal do get booked early.
Also don’t forget we have some lovely bespoke finisher’s medals for this year’s Bucks Road Sportive, so once again time to get your entries in.
