Well for a number of us it was a great week’s road riding in France, for the hardy souls on the trip some 800 plus Kms and a number of Tour De France Cols taken in during the route. As always lots of stories and epic tales but the good news is that no crashes and everyone survived. Now all we need to do is to get out our thinking caps on for next’s year’s route. I think this trip once again highlights the diversity of the club as over the last couple of weeks we have organised an XC mountain bike race, road training, MTB training, social rides as well as this epic.
Whilst we were away a number of people were still active, Sam Phillips back on the top step of the Beastway Series in the grand vets. In the Nats at Phoenix bike park Paul White taking 15th with George Fowkes just outside the top 10 in the juvenile class. Also we had a representative in the Brompton Championships which had a £10,000 first prize with Jack Shuttleworth finishing 8th.as well as a few people racing at Hillingdon along with a social ride at the weekend.
Looking ahead to this week, today Tuesday it is racing at Hillingdon, then Wednesday I will be organising MTB training at Black Park form 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. as normal will start with skills from 6-6.30 p.m. meeting at the grassed area behind the lake. Hopefully for those more into social riding someone will post up a social ride to complement this. Thursday it is road training at the Hillingdon Cct starting at 5.45 p.m. Friday I am doing a 2 to 3hr steady gravel ride and will be leaving Uxbridge area about 9.30, so get in touch if you want to join me. Saturday for the social MTB riders or the racers just wanting to spin their legs before Sunday’s races there is a social MTB ride meet at 9.30 at The Malt Shovel. Sunday for the MTB racers there is the latest rod of the Southern Series at Pippingford also Sunday planning a road ride from the Malt Shovel, meeting at 9 a.m. likely to be 2 distances and ability groups so let me know if you’re coming. Then Monday as we have missed out a club night for a little whole the plan is to have a beer at the Crown from 8.30 onwards.
Looking ahead there are a number of club people thinking of entering the Scott Marathon in Minehead on the weekend of the 1st July, which was certainly a good trip last year. Then the following weekend, there is choice of organised events, The South Downs Way in a day on the 7th, on the 8th there are 2 organised road rides which people have expressed an interest in, the Bridport Dagger and the Beeston Sportive, so why not get along to the pub next Monday and have a chat about the logistics of entering these?
