Club News 16th July

As always lots going on this week, certainly some great results at the 4th and final round of the Southern XC series, on the day wins for Rick Fetherston (Grd Vets) and Agne (Sport) and podiums for Gosia McPherson (Grd Vets) with a second and a third for Alex Earl (Sport). Whilst other club results were Neil Ellison 4th vets, Sam Phillips 6th Grd Vets and Nick Try 8th sports.

Overall Rick won the series in the grd vets, Agne won the sports ladies class, Neil and Gosia took 2nd overall in the vets and grd vets respectively. So well done to all.

Elsewhere Paul White took 2nd in the Friday night Summer series whilst we had a good cub turnout on Tuesday in the West Thames series, however no results in the top 10 so hopefully better this week coming.

Over last week it was very much business as usual on the cub rides/training, Wed we had MTB training, Thursday road training, Sat a social MTB ride then Sunday 4hr road ride.

On the road ride front a number of people have a different idea of what is their ideal ride, some can only stay out for 3 hrs, some want a longer ride, some want a stop and some do not so if you are keen on these rides let me know what your preference is then we can try and accommodate the majority.

Looking ahead Tuesday there is road racing at Hillingdon, this is an ideal chance to get some British Cycling points and certainly our younger riders Nick and Chris Try and Sam Thompson are fit enough to be able to finish in the top 10 and even win in the 4th category race so hopefully we will see a good club presence this week. Wednesday there is MTB training at Black Park-meet at the Green space where the race started at 6 for the skills training and 6.30 for the fitness training, there is a small donation for this training of £2, Thursday there is road training at Hillingdon, this starts at 6 p.m. and will go onto about 7:45. Saturday we are going to give a club gravel ride a go, this will be a mixture of mainly little country lanes. Some bridleways and canal towpath including a couple of the fire tracks through Black Park. This ride will be most suited to gravel/cross bikes but hardtail MTBs should also be ok. The ride will be roughly 3.5hrs long and a cake stop will be planned in the last hour. Sunday the usual road ride will take place meeting at the Malt Shovel at 9 a.m.

Also this weekend it is the National MTB championships and it is great to see we have some entries from the club and a number of those who are riding for the club will undoubtedly be at the sharp end so good luck to all taking part.

A big thanks to those that have settled their accounts for the recent French road trip, 3 or 4 people still need to pay the O/S balance if they could do so ASAP.

Also don’t forget the date of the club BBQ is approaching so make sure you put the 11th August in your diaries.
