What a great week it has been on the racing side for the club, we started the success last Tuesday when new recruit Jack Shuttleworth took the win in the 1st round of the West Thames series in the 4th category race and Drew Travis took 4th. What was really nice to see was the vast improvement Drew has made from last year when he was getting dropped. This just goes to show that his hard work is paying off and the club’s road training sessions have been working. This was highlighted even further on Saturday when another attendee Agne Kudirkaite scored her maiden road victory on the circuit on Saturday and with it enough points to upgrade to a 3rd category rider. The winning did not stop there though, as on Sunday in the Eastern MSG series it was a Fowkes double whammy with George wining the juvenile’s race and dad Roger the vets. A little further back in the vets was Paul White in 6th and in the grd Vets Rick Fetherston just missed out on the win finishing in 2nd.
Also over the week in addition to the road training we had the MTB training at Black Park, a social ride out to the same venue where it was nice to catch up with new member Alejandro out on his club debut ride, John Jones’s 80 mile birthday ride who as always remains an inspiration to us all as he swallows up the miles despite his age. Then Sunday saw a very good turnout for the road ride.
This week the current plans are as follows, Tuesday road racing at the Hillingdon circuit, where hopefully we will see a few more from the club taking part, Wednesday there is MTB training at Black Park in preparation for our race at the venue on June 3rd, we will be meeting slightly later at 6.30 p.m. at Go Ape, if that is a bit early for people we are likely to be using the same start area as last year so head down that way and you will bump into us. Thursday we have the road training at Hillingdon cct from 6 p.m. onwards the session will consist of 3 x 5 laps sessions followed by some lead out sprint drills. Friday we are going to see what the interest is in a morning no drop social road ride, aiming for around the 40 mile mark with a coffee stop pace will be to suit those that attend. Meet at the Specialized Concept Store 9.45.
Saturday there is a Lookout MTB ride planned either meet at the main car park at 9 a.m. or if people want a lift then the club van will be leaving the Uxbridge area at 8.15 a.m. so shout if you need a lift.
Sunday for those not racing there will be road rides leaving the Malt Shovel at 9 a.m. There will be 3 route distance options to choose from, 80/60/40 miles approx and routes will be published later. Hopefully the shorter routes will be ideally suited for those who have recently joined the club and have not yet taken the plunge to come out on a ride yet, so why not go for it?
Entries are still coming in steadily for our Bucks Off Road Sportive on May13th, this is the 20th anniversary of the event and we are hoping for a record field so keep spreading the word about the event and don’t forget to enter.
We are still looking for people to volunteer to help out with the marshalling at Black Park on the 3rd June, if you have a partner/wife/husband/lover perhaps they could spare an hour or two whilst you race so get in touch if you can assist.
I am selling a pair of Roval Carbon 29er bolt through wheels, tubeless ready rims, Shimano freehub, if interested make me a reasonable offer.
Also we need to make a decision about the annual Night race very soon, is anyone wanting to organise this, this year?
Hopefully see people on a ride soon.
