Once again a quiet weekend on the race front but socially a number of us had a good trip down to the South Wales to ride the Afan and Cwmcarn MTB trail centres, these are great trails that are not overly weather affected so no mud which is always good and the accommodation that the majority used the Afan Lodge was ideally situated and proved to be a good choice. Elsewhere there was also a Social MTB ride from Denham.
This weekend coming we show our versatility with a mountain bike ride planned for Saturday at The Look Out, meet 9.30 at the main car park, there is also the regular Road Ride from Tatling End, then Sunday for the racers there is a Gorrick Race and for others our final session at Calshot velodrome, the session is between 11 and 2 and there are a few spare spaces at present. It is a great buzz, indoor so guaranteed not to get wet on Sunday, it would be good to see a few of our new members coming along and the club van should be going from the Uxbridge area if people need transport. As always there will be a few club members at Hillingdon Circuit on Friday morning for the regular road training.
As the road racing season is soon going to be soon upon us the plan is to start road training on a Thursday evening at the Hillingdon circuit from 6p.m. next week, initially starting with 4 x 5 laps intervals ¼ lap changes with a sprint at the end of each interval followed by 2 laps recovery, depending on numbers we will split into ability groups with ideally 5 in each group.
For those keen road riding the clubs road sportive is now just over 2 weeks away, there is a choice of 2 distances 100km and 68 Km, both find some tough Chiltern Climbs, we have finishers medals and as well as GPX files the routes will be fully marked. There is a limit of entries so don’t delay, get your entry in as soon as possible. Full details at https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/188732/Bucks-Road-Sportive
I am surprised there has not been more take up from the great deal we are getting from our main sponsor the Specialized Concept Store Ruislip in respect of the cub deals which is up to 35% off 6 Specialized bikes and a similar amount off shoes/helmets, these deals are aimed at the racers but we can try to put the request in for anyone in the club and see if they will be approved, so anyone keen put your name forward.
Nice to see a couple more form the club have entered the Paris Roubaix Sportive on April 13th, with Paul Miller and Gosia J also muttering about entering it looks like we could have a good club presence, there is still currently room to enter and to stay at the Hotel we have booked so why not take the plunge and enter.
A couple of use are thinking of another foreign sortie this time to ride the 4hr Le Touquet MTB endurance race on March 10th if anyone else is keen let me know.
Lastly we are once again looking for a few helpers for our series of 3 criteriums at the Hillingdon cct on the 9th/16th/23rd March, no experience necessary, you get a chance to watch some great racing up close, so if you can spare a couple of hours or an afternoon please get in touch with the organiser Ian Chatfield or send me a message/text.
