Club News 12 Mar 2018

Another week rolls by luckily the weather was a bit better this week so hopefully people got out even though a bit of rain seemed to effect numbers for the Saturday ride.

This week club stalwart Ian Chatfield organises the first of three consecutive Saturday afternoon races at the Hillingdon circuit, there is racing for all standards apart from Elite and 1st Cat men so hopefully we will see a number of club riders taking part, certainly expecting the faster riders, Paul Miller, Clive Evans, Nick Try, Sam Thompson, Jason Snell and Drew Travis riding in the men’s races, whilst it will also be good to see Agne, Kasia and both Gosias pinning numbers on for the ladies races. The racing is a buzz around the circuit and certainly will help improve bike handling and fitness which even if more MTB orientated will help in cross country racing.

A number of people have volunteered to help, we could do with a few more for the last 2 weeks so if you can assist please post up and or let Ian know directly. People will be required for 1 p.m. onwards.

This week’s planned rides are as follows, Tuesday evening road training at the Hillingdon Circuit from 6 p.m. the idea is to split into ability groups, and the schedule of 3 x20 mins sessions, ¼ lap changes with a sprint at the end of every 20 mins block followed by two laps rest before starting the next 20 min session, if you arrive late just join in, in an appropriate group. Wed it is the usual MTB evening social ride meeting at 7 p.m. at the Malt Shovel, remember your money for a beer at the end of the ride.

Then Saturday there is a social MTB ride meeting at the Malt Shovel at 9.30, this will be an approx 2hr ride as I need to be back to assist with the running of the crits at Hillingdon. Sunday there is a road ride, last week on Sunday there was a good group out so hopefully it will be the same this Sunday. The plan will be to do 4hrs at approximately 17 MPH although this will depend on the route and who is out, Wayne has kindly volunteered to lead a slower group if there are people of different ability levels that turn up. The plan will be to post the routes up on Garmin with both routes following the same route with a few short cuts for the slower group so we should all meet up a few times at least. For those more into their MTBiking and don’t mind getting up early there is also a ride around the Look Out at Bracknell, meeting at 8 am at the main car park. Please post up if you’re going on this so Nick P who is organising knows you’re coming.

If anyone wants to do any alternative rides then once again please post up or let me know, and I will advertise it. Remember for a club to flourish it requires some effort from all its members and to cater for the wide range of abilities of riders we have we do need to organise a variety of rides.

As most of you know we are running our Bucks Off Road Sportive on May13th, this is the 20th anniversary of the event and as usual we will be giving a ride memento out to all participants, if anyone has any ideas what would be a good event memento then let me know ASAP.

If you want to come on the clubs Scottish MTB trip let me know, as accommodation is very limited in Glentress If anyone else wants to come get in touch and I can give you details of the accommodation we have booked. The club van is likely to be going up on Thursday morning but I know other people are planning on going up on Friday after work so lifts are probably available.

A few people have asked me about the club hoodies, an order has gone in so should have some news on that front soon.

If anyone is after club kit I do have road jerseys in most sizes in stock and very limited Bib Shorts, so if you need anything get in touch.

There is one vacancy for a female on the French MTB trip if anyone is keen, this is a place to place ride but with the van as back up so is suitable for any standard rider.

The club have applied for two teams in the Prudential London ride if we are successful that means there will be room for 8 people get in touch if you want to be considered.

Hopefully see people on a ride soon.
