The WDMBC was set up in 1990 after an arrangement with the the local bike shop Heff's. At the time, Scott were sponsoring their dealers' teams by providing bikes at trade price and jerseys bearing the Scott name as well as the name of the shop. The Heff's team featured three riders: Paul Bennett, Chris Denman and Simon Williams. Subsequently they were joined by two junior riders supported solely by Heff's Ben Atkinson and Matthew Warburton.
The mountain bike scene started to pick up and successes soon came their way. When Scott pulled out of the sponsorship deal, it was decided that the club should get its name from its geographical location. As well as enjoying race success, the club also started running a number of social events, including trips to Wales, Gloucester and France
1991 saw the club promote its first open event which attracted over 400 riders to Rushmoor. The club built on these early activities gaining more and more members every year, with the current total being 65. The club still promotes mtb races a year and, from 1999, two road events
Successes for the club during the years have included a number of important wins, with Karen Campbell, Jody Crawforth and Jackie Roberts winning National series, Chris Denman and Jim McConnell winning SAMS overall titles, as well as top podium places at a host of more local events for riders like Jo Adams, Clive Evans, Dave Nelson, Jim Griffiths,Ian Patterson, Sam Phillips, Pete Smith, Vaughan Smith, Dom Stewart, Ben Tisdall, Vickie Tulley and Simon Williams. Representatives from the club have also raced abroad with Chris Denman and Dom Stewart both winning in Spain in 1996 and competing in Switzerland and at the famous Paris-Roubaix.
The club have always supported the Red Bull 24 mountain mayhem race and 1999 saw the pinnacle so far for the club with 3rd place behind the Raliegh and Giant professional teams, this being followed up the next year with 5th overall
Although mountain biking is still the club's main interest, an increasing number of riders are now competing on the road with some success over the years including three different riders winning the divisional road race championships. On the cyclocross front, the club has also has a presence with veteran Pete Smith having achieved a 2nd overall in the National Trophy Cyclo-Cross Series as well as winning the South of England Championships.
Since 2001the club have attracted a new sponsor with Beyond Mountain Bikes linking up with the club..Although initially the loss of Heff's as a sponsor saw a number of the clubs top rider attracted away the input of Beyond has seen the club firmly back on the way up .Two second places in the Red Bull 24 hour Womens Elite team race as well as winning the Mens veterans title with 5th place overall shows the progrees being made.Riders of note this year include Chris Denman winning the Kona 100 veterans title,Dave Nelson and JimGriffiths taking podium spots in the National series and of cource Jackie Roberts winning the National Vet title in a time that would have seen her beat all the master women
On the social side the club have supplemented their regular weekend rides with a number of off-road and on road randonees including 5 riders competing in the E'Tape in France. The club have also had a number of trips down to Wales with more planned for the future as they try to cater for all standards of riders.
