Post Club Fees 2010

Keith has been doing a sterling job administering the club membership over the last few years and club numbers have risen to well over 100 members. However, each year, it seems some of you guys and girls are more watertight than a submarine when it comes to paying your subs!!

Hopefully, you will see the error of your ways and realise that the benefits of.....

Social training rides (weekday & weekend)
Club trips
Social evenings
Subsidised race entry
Discount at Beyond MTB courtesy of Jackie
Specialized discount at Beyond MTB courtesy of Jackie
Club van

....are well worth the £20 you now owe.

The AGM is on Monday 1st Feb and if you have not paid by then, the above benefits will be removed and forum login accounts suspended. Jackie has a list of current paid / unpaid members and will use these when approving your eligibility to the discounts.

Best £20 I have ever spent.

Race all the club races...even just for fun and you get 75% of your sub back
Spend £80 on Specialized stuff at Jackie's and you get your sub back
Go to Afan, Wales for the weekend, accommodation, food and good company for £40 - a vast saving on what it would cost to do it yourself
Advice on training and racing from BCF registered coaches

And also compared to other local clubs we are much (much) cheaper:

£40 for Berks on Bikes
£40 for London Dynamo
£55 for Serpentine (£30 joining fee and £25 per annum)

Plus, it appears, you get to rip the p1ss out of me on a regular basis for my take on stylish cycling attire AND make me stupid offers for the high quality merchandise I pedal (pun intended) from time to time. Worth the £20 on its own I reckon

Totally agree - first bit obviously mate not the last bit ;-)

The Serpentine approach is the £30 joining fee gets you a club top (normally £25 to buy - so only £5 admin fee). What do people reckon of something similar for WDMBC? Or has it already been tried before

Might be worth raising at the AGM if you can make that?

But you don't get discount entry to any races/events do you? If not then surely it's just a different way of cutting the same cake?

In fact, if you had ridden BORS, Plack Park, 24:12 and Bordon you would have recieved £20 back in discounted entry, so effectively your entire membership fee returned to you during 2009.

I know were arguing the same point here

They do get some discounts for races, they have their own race series, and get some free entries for stuff like London Marathon - the places are normally allocated based on a 'who helped out the most' basis. Personally I haven't had any of those benefits.

I was more thinking about whether WDMBC should introduce a joining fee and get a free jersey in the process? Unlikely I can make the AGM, perhaps someone can raise on my behalf?

Yes sorry I was being a bit slow. A joining fee could provide a jersey in return.

Do you think this would put people off? £50 in the first year? Obviously it doesn't at Serpentine as they have 2332 (or something) members. Perhaps Triatheletes and runners have shorter arms and shallower pockets

I think we discussed this in the last AGM and decided against it BUT I would be happy to suggest again on your behalf.

FWIW, I think that, considering the benefits, the membership is great value.

Perhaps I should be adding an 'entertainment value surcharge' on to 2010 memberships
