Default Club news 29/12/2009

Hopefully everyone had a good Xmas and everyone got some shiny new bike bits to adorn their steeds for 2010.

On the racing front once again the Gorrick had a mega turnout, as our events have a better atmosphere and definitely better prizes hopefully this year will see us getting close to their numbers for our events- Results wise Colin finished 4th in the 4hr vets, Rachael 9th in the 2hr ladies, Martin T 8th ,Stefano 9th and Ben Aldridge 89th in the 2 hour men's event. Werner was 10th in the 4hr seniors with David Rankin 43rd in the 4hrs vets,so well done to all of those who took part.

The races will start coming thick and fast in a couple of months and the first big event for most is our own Black Park XC race on the 14th March so get your entries in soon. Entry forms can be downloaded from the download section of the site, if you enter by way of cash/cheque you get a five pound discount as a club member, you can enter on lne via the xcracer site and claim a fiver back when you sign on if you prefer to do it that way. A little reminder we will soon be dishing out the club shorts for those that race these will be heavily discounted and we will also have some RRP products (check the link on the top page for full details) to give away-to qualify you must be entering races under the following
BEYOND/WDMBC/RRP/SPECIALIZED Can you all make sure Time laps have you registered under this name

On the social side it was great turnout and a real good evening at the Elvis night at the curry house, a couple of people owe me deposits if they could sort them out that would be great, on the riding front there was a good turnout for the Christmas Eve ride and an even better turnout for the trip down to Cwm Carn apparently no big spills and a good day was had by all despite a little bit of snow and ice remaining on the trails.

Looking back on this year it has been an amazing year for the club, record numbers for our round of the Southern XC at Bordon, record numbers at the Bucks off road sportive, record club membership and a record of 98 race wins over the year lets hope we can keep the momentum going for another year.

There is a little blip on the club website that the calendar does not go into 2010 so anyone posting rides up will need to do it on the forum page until our webmaster is back from the states and sorts out the site

Training wise there is a plan to have some fast 2 hr MTB rides every Sat morning around the Lookout to improve skills/fitness the plan would be to make the route fairly simple so that no on gets lost and the same route is followed every week and do 3-4 laps the idea is that anyone of any ability can take part however there would be no waiting as it is for fitness.Post up on the forums if interested- we will need someone au fait with The Lookout to sort the route out whch should be about 30-40 mins riding time per lap at a good pace and fairly easy to follow.

Over the next few Sundays there will also be a road ride to help with increasing endurance/strength this will be in addition to the regular social rides.AAlso those wanting to train don't forget the regular Thursday sessions at Hillingdon 6 p.m. onwards.

On the van front we have now had it for the past 6 months and have racked up a nearly 5,000 miles so reckon it was a good investment , it is now time for its MOT anyone who has a favourite garage they can take it to/recommend let me know I think the days of getting an MOT without needing to see the vehicle have gone but we do need to find somewhere where we are not going to be ripped off.

The new shorts have arrived and are down at the Beyond Shop waiting to be picked up, anyone able to do this let me know ASAP so we can hopefully have the kit for the next cub night on the 4th Jan

They got me down for the wrong catorgory and incorrect team name so they did well not lol.. I had to withdraw as tweaked my ligaments in my knee and couldn't see the point in carrying on/risking it especially as i'm only just starting to get a bit of fitness back.

I use a local chap to me to do my car stuff mot's services etc. So if you want me to sort it out let me know.

I'd defiantly be up for the road/mtb training rides as I can use this as part of my current training plan.

Cheers,
Ben.

Don't know what was the biggest test of endurance the 4hr vets or standing around in the frezzing cold for hours waiting for my van key,

Shame about your knee Ben it was a brillant course for a endurance event, but it was the wise move to pull out

Big thanks again for bringing the key back I own you a few pints

Chris,
I am going to Dorking in the morning, so could pop into Beyond on the way and pick up the kit, if no one else is going. Can drop it back to Chris' in the evening.
Txt me if that's OK (07712-674074).

Sean.

I know a guy that could do the van and won't rip us off so let me know if you need his number.

I might be up for some of the Saturday morning sessions at lookout and maybe also Thursday evening (you'll all be very pleased to hear I've decided to ditch yoga!!)...is Thurs Road or Mtb (where and what time too?)

Hi Chris

I'm up for the training laps round the Lookout as I plan to enter a few races (for fun!) this year. I know I'll never keep up with anyone fast but a dedicated route to practice on will only help my fitness and speed over a period of time, along with some other things I'm working on.

I know the Lookout pretty well but what I lack is the racing/riding knowlegde to pick a route on my own ie: would it need very technical routes in it, would it need hills, would it need to be a fast smooth single track OR combination of all? Also 30-40mins lap at my pace would be very very different from the fast lads and lasses but what mileage would it approx equate to. I'm more than happy to sort a route out with one of the experienced club members and then between us we'd possibly get something that fits the bill. As I'm not working throughout January I have plenty of time!

Cheers Jules

No time like the present to start the training rides, if Jules or someone can sort out an approx 30 min loop at race pace for the faster riders that should see those with a bit of speed doing 4 laps and those less fit three laps.
Idealy the cct should be a mixture of fire roads and single track on the drier tracks with a few undulations nothing overly technical and an easy route to folow ideally starting a little ride from the centre and heading out to Crowthorne where we can use some of the tracks that the Gorrick use for their races and there is less chance of coming across other social riders
Although I am working this Sat it sounds like there are enough people interested so why not start the New Year off in the right vein and as it will be a set cct once you know the route anyone wanting to improve their fitness will benefit.

10 am meet at The Look out?
