club news 22-02-2010

Ok, firstly the club kit order is going in, after today anyone who has not ordered by the end of the night will have to rely on the spare kit we have ordered. If you have left it late post up on the forum or even better send Gill an e -mail pronto.

Despite the really naf weather (surely it is not just me who is fed up cleaning bikes/kit after every ride) there has been good turnouts for the cub rides. This weekend there was quite a few people out on both the Saturday training ride and also the Sunday social ride. Not such a good turnout for the Willesden reliability ride but with the rain and according to the organisers snow in the Chilterns hardly surprising so a big hand to Martin J one of the few hardy souls who turned up to take part.

Still getting a few more entries for our Black Park XC race on the 14th March, we do need quite a few more to make a profit so spread the word, those club members who have not entered now is the time to do so. A couple of people have offered their assistance on the day to help with marshalling/lap scoring and signing on but still looking for more and also looking for someone to do a short stint of commentary, all volunteers one e-mail forward. Club members download a form from the website and you get a fiver discount if you send it/hand it to me prior to the closing date.

Whilst we are on about volunteers Ian Chatfield is organising our Beyond crits at Hillingdon on which are fast approaching we will need assistance with signing on as well as catering and judging. Dates are 20th and 27th March and 3rd April so put these in your diaries.Club riders entering the 3 events will be entitled to a £4 discount if they pre enter.

Looking ahead we have two club trips coming up in the near future, the first is a midweek trip to Wales, the plan is as follows

Mon 22nd March early a.m. Drive to Coed Brenin complete one of the shorter trails overnight stay at Coed Brenin
Tuesday 23rd -Full Day at Coed Brenin -overnight Coed Brenin
Wed Day 24th Drive to Nanty yr Arianrd trail cente then drive to overnight stop at Brechfa
Thurs 25th Day at Brechfa then stay overnight at Brechfa
Fri 26th Drive to Afan and meet those that just fancy Fri before driving home Fri evening or stay a further day in Afan to complete another trail, maybe if Chris&Jackies B&B is open by then they can sort out some reasonably priced digs

All the above rides have way marked routes so a difference in ability is not going to be the end of the world as they are all easy to follow. get in touch post up if keen-will be looking at booking B & B's at the end of the month

The second is an Easter trip as follows

7stanes trip to Scotland. from Friday 2nd to Monday 6th leaving early Friday morning.

Staying here http://www.barnsoulfarm.co.uk/ for Friday to Monday, It is only about 10 miles from each of Mabie, Ae & Drumlanrig and not far to Kirroughtree.

Anyone wanting to join Steve T is welcome but need to arrange transport/accommodation as there is already one car full, there'll be plenty of different speeds/abilities, although probably best to plan on being fairly self sufficient. Going to cover Glentress and Innerleithen on 1 of the days.

For those of the dark side there is 10 mile time trial on the 7th March, free to enter for club members, get in touch with Paul Williams if you fancy this, which is in the Maidenhead area.

Ok this weeks plans

Tues- 3hr steady road ride leave Uxbridge area 9.30, Wed a social MTB night ride around the Dorney loop, Thursday Road training at the Hillingdon Circuit- 6P.M. onwards,Friday a recce of the Black Park race circuit, meet the Malt Shovel 9.30 or should be at the Park at 10, Saturday MTB race training at The Lookout meet at 9.45 at the main car park, Sunday the plan is to make change and do the Guildford loop if Paul B who knows the area can make it provisionally meeting at 10 a.m. Post up on the forum if keen

So plenty of choice, also the Bonty 24/12 is filling up fast, a couple of riders looking for teams-Les and Sam G, also need a ay or a nay for the fast vets team, so far confirmed Jon P, waiting for a definite from BMF,Paul Cook,Adrian and looking for one other also looking for a fast women's team waiting for a definite from Jackie,Karen C,Kat moving up from the Fun women's team,Rachael D and will need one other. So post up and let me know and I will get the entries sent.

For those in the know some oink stole the number plates of the club van whilst it was parked in the street, my drive is not quite big enough for the van and Karen's driving so if anyone locally has room for a van on their drive get in touch

cheers Chris

Yep my washing machine is seeing more action than usual with all the dirty clothes. It's not just the washing of bikes but the cough/colds/sore throats from being in wet/cold/wet/cold/warm/wet/warm!! Roll on Spring..

Gaz will help with marshalling at Black Park - will send you an email.

Jules
p.s We'll keep a lookout for a cloned transit !! :(

Tell me about the washing... I have a sand pit outside the house from washing the bikes

Not to mention the brake pads :(

I have just booked the time off work for the Welsh trip. Sounds good. Just waiting the next couple of days to get confimation, but should be good for it. I've done Afan a few times but been wanting to go to Coed Brenin for some time. Nanty yr Arianrd & Brechfa sound interesting too. I'll post up again on the right Forum link to confirm.

I've even been having to clean the ride bike - more times since xmas than in the whole year before of owning it!

That said, for those of you who have all the time to go riding during the day, the track at Tunnell Hill, site of the Gorrick a week ago was really quite dry.

I'll post on another thread about the gps question I have, but in principle I have the gps track of the circuit

I agree, I'm sick of this weather - going through 2 pairs of brake blocks a month on my commuting bike

Hi Chris,
It may pay to keep a daily record of the vehicles whereabouts incase the plates are to be used on a cloned/stolen vehicle. May be used to avoid parking or congestion charges that would come back to the registered keeper of the club van.

Cheers
Aid
