This week we start off with reminding people that the club Christmas do is on the 9th December, a couple of people have put a lot of hard work into this, arranging the Venue/Music/Food so please support this event, at the last count we had 36 people interested, so now it’s time to pay for your ticket, a grand total of £30 per head, as always a BACS transfer to the club account secures your place although I can take cash at the next club night.
At the Club Xmas do we usually have two awards, club person of the month and club racer of the year, it has been difficult to narrow down the possible winners as a number of you have helped out but my nominations for the club person of the year are the following:
1.Neil Ellison-for helping out at the BRS, the NOTKT and the French routes
2.Henry Howe-for his efforts in helping out various club events but especially at the NOTKT taking equipment back to his factory at close to midnight on race night and his generous assistance with the purchase of the club van.
3. Gosia McPherson for her massive help in organising all the club events, the road tour, the BRS, BORS, NOTKT, Specialized Crits, the Xmas party and for the attendance of club rides.
4 Wayne Cook, for leading and sorting out routes for the club rides including the London to Brighton as well as his monumental efforts in sorting out the BORS routes.
For the racer of the year, although a number of riders have produced some great results, I think there can only be 2 real choices and it is a straight battle between Neil Ellison and Sam Edwards.
As people have mentioned they do not like Facebook polls, as people cannot remain anonymous if you wish to vote let me know by e-mail/text/WhatsApp.
On the racing front this weekend it was a bit of a blank weekend with only Neil racing as far as I know, unfortunately for Neil his superb run of wins was broken as feeling a bit under the weather he finished in 8th place in the 3rd round of the veterans National trophy series, hopefully he will be back on top form soon.
Socially over the week, we had the usual social MTB ride, the road training was rained off on Tuesday but the cross training was held on Thursday then at the weekend there was both a cross ride and an MTB social ride.
This week today Tuesday we have the road training at Hillingdon, this starts at 6.30 p.m. and hopefully we will have enough out for 3 ability groups, Thursday we have the MTB/Cross training at Hillingdon, meet at the Athletics track car park at 6.30, Saturday there is an MTB ride at the Lookout, the plan is to either meet at the main car park at 9 a.m. or if you want a lift in the club van meet at my place at 8.20. Let me know of you want a lift. Sunday there is likely to be a steady road ride from the Malt Shovel.
The spaces on the next club trip the South Wales MTB trip on the 5/6/7th Jan are filling up, so if you fancy doing Afan and possibly Brechfa and Bike Park Wales get in touch pronto.
We are also planning a trip to the home of Spring Cycling-Majorca in February, I am planning on departing on the 26th Feb for a week to 10 days a few other people are interested, if you are please post up on the club forum.
For those who have been talking about a change of club name to reflect the fact that we are much more than an MTB club please read the comments on the club forum at http://www.westdraytonmbc.co.uk/forums/topic/possible-name-change/#post-74657 and then of you have any comments please post them up for the benefit of all members.
A couple of people still owe their deposits for the French trip-if that is you please sort it out as soon as you can.
Hopefully see people on a ride soon.
