What a great evenings racing we had at Black Park on Saturday night and what great club results, wins for Sam Edwards, Charlotte Cumming, Paul Miller, Gosia McPherson, Simon Slater, Sue Tebbs and Abi Old with podiums for Roger Fowkes, Slavek and Andrew Bate , a big commiseration to Clive Evans who was leading the grand vets until an untimely puncture.

I think everyone who rode really enjoyed it and although I did not ride the curse in the dark on the night having ridden it during the day I felt it was a superb course. Also brilliant to see so many people helping out, far too many to mention so if you helped in any way take a big pat on the back. Also a big thanks to Paul Miller for the prizes even if he won the most himself!

A special mention and thanks must go to Henry, getting the wood for the North Shore, for the use of his warehouse to make the new North Shore, use of his van to transport the North Shore and providing the lighting towers and generators on the night.

Now the bad news, the numbers for the event were down for the second year running and although unless I have made a mistake and forgotten something we have just about broken even, I feel it is time to either decide that we will give the event a miss next year or someone else needs to take the event on and hopefully with fresh blood and enthusiasm will reverse the trend of the decreasing numbers. I am more than willing to help run the event but I will not be organizing it, so if anyone fancies taking it on let me know by e-mail and we can chat about what is required.

Last weekend also saw another win for the club with Neil Ellison winning his first cross of the year in the Eastern Series, Neil who is a veteran this year will certainly be a man to watch as he is in superb form.

Ok what else is happening? Tuesday we have road training at the Hillingdon cct, despite the rain last week we had 6 people going round so with dry weather forecast this week I am expecting a good turnout, usual format split into 2 ability groups ¼ lap changes, sprint after 4 laps regroup and then sprint after 8 laps, 2 laps easy and then repeat.

Wednesday we have our usual social MTB ride, don’t forget a few tokens for a beer at the end of the ride. Thursday evening we are starting cross training at the Old Ski Slope meet at the Uxbridge athletics track car park at 6.30, cross or MTBs are welcome although the training will be more cross based. At the weekend a number of our cross riders will be competing as there is a London league event as well as a Wessex league event so good luck to those racing. There is talk about an MTB ride around the Checkendon area and is also likely to be road ride so keep watching the club website/facebook for more up to date details.

I have had the latest club kit order delivered to me, and have kit for a few people and also have a few spare jerseys/shorts in most sizes so get in touch if you want anything.

I am looking for nominations for club racer of the month for August, if you think you deserve it or can suggest someone else post up, remember it is not the result that is so important it is the person who has excelled and done a performance that was better than expected.

Details of the clubs planned 2018 road trip is on the club website, well at least the first 3 Days so if you want to come along post up your interest on the forum.

Hopefully see you on a ride soon
